Pan-Mass
Challenge 2009
Now I know this is Christian Vande Velde’s Fan Club, but this is such a great cause I had to bring it to your attention. On Wednesday, July 29, 2009 you can meet Magnus Backstedt (Christian’s former Team mate and 2004 Paris-Roubaix winner) at Parris in Boston’s Quincy Market from 6:30-9:30 PM. Tickets and details are available at www.forza-g.com or by emailing Matt Dillis at
Forza-g@comcast.net. The details are below. This is a great way to support young riders and help to find a cure for cancer.
Forza-G is a Boston based charity cycling team dedicated to the cause of cancer care and research. As a team we ride and raise funds in support of the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge and Boston's Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The PMC is the single largest and most successful athletic fundraiser in the United States. Since 1980 the PMC has raised over $239 million for the Dana Farber. In 2008 alone the PMC's donation was $3.5 million- a figure that represents 100% of the money raised by over 5,000 participating cyclists.
The 30th annual PMC will be held on August 1-2, 2009. Currently our Forza-G PMC team roster stands at 25 riders- including the Big Swede himself. Together our goal is to raise at least $150,000. Most of us will be riding the traditional 192-mile, 2 day route from the hills of central Massachusetts to the very tip of Cape Cod. For a bit more of a challenge, some of us will be adding 100 miles to our ride by starting at the New York/Massachusetts border- in the hope of encouraging our supporters to make a bigger donation to the cause.
Forza-G is partnered with Magnus Backstedt, providing US production, distribution and sales of Magnus Maximus Coffee. We are taking on this effort as volunteers in order to direct our portion of coffee proceeds toward our PMC fundraising.
So, when you brew a cup of Magnus Maximus we hope you'll enjoy it even more knowing that you are not only helping promising young cyclists to reach the highest level of the sport, but you are also helping us on the road to a cure.
